Ara Dolatian finalist in the Midsumma and Australia Post Art Award

We’re thrilled to congratulate Ara Dolatian, who has been announced as a finalist in the Midsumma and Australia Post Art Award. This non-acquisitive annual award is a survey of outstanding queer artists working across mediums reflecting their potent personal and political perspectives on the world.

Dolatian’s finalist inclusion is a body of work titled Antiquities, which presents a curated series of the artist’s sculptural ceramic works from 2022-2023. This body of work examines cultural ecologies surrounding the histories of present, lost and stolen Mesopotamian artefacts – the histories of the artist’s country of birth, Iraq. Through tangible and visual means, it serves as a vivid representation of sculptural deities, architectural forms and vessels.

The Midsumma finalist exhibition will run from 30 January – 11 February at No Vacancy Gallery.
