Celebrating 10 years. 2006 – 2016

TEN + 3

In 2003 I opened my first gallery at 716 High St Armadale. Initially trading as Port Jackson Press Gallery, under the guidance of Family owned company, Port Jackson Press Australia. After 3 years learning and establishing myself as an Art Dealer, building a stable of artists to represent who were mostly painters/ or draftsman, rather than exclusively printmakers, (PJPA specialises in printmaking) The decision was made to rebrand and establish a new company with the vision to represent and develop the careers of contemporary fine artists. James Makin Gallery was established in July 2006.

In 2009 the gallery relocated to its current address, 67 Cambridge St Collingwood. A converted 300sqm warehouse with polished concrete floors, flooding natural light from above sawtooth roofline. Multiple exhibition spaces with a private client viewing room.

Today, 13 years after initally opening, and 10 years as James Makin Gallery, the gallery continues to strive to represent and develop the careers of not only established mid and senior career artists, but launching emerging artists. The business is constantly evolving and growing, now looking to the future and the next 10 years.
