Zoe Grey, Winner of Hadley’s Art Prize 2024

We are delighted to congratulate artist Zoe Grey on being selected as the winner of the 2024 Hadley’s Art Prize!

Presented by the Hadley’s Orient Hotel, The Hadley’s Art Prize, Hobart is an acquisitive Australian landscape prize, which offers $100,000 to the winning entry.

The Hadley’s Art Prize, Hobart contributes to the art community and celebrates excellence in contemporary landscape art. Judged by a panel of art specialists, the prize is open to Australian artists over the age of eighteen working in two-dimensional media.

Zoe Grey is an artist from Lutruwita/Tasmania, Australia. Her work explores ideas of home, connection to place and the experience of landscape, which informs a large part of her practice.

Grey says of her winning piece, ‘The shape of rock’,

‘A wind line comes across the bay, white caps marching. The mountain looms to the north, unwavering. The rocks, the creatures that slip between them, settle and stay. These moments of the landscape, felt so often through my life on the west-coast of lutruwita/Tasmania, are constant. As steady as the sea. But each time I return home, there is something new: folds of preminghana in seasonal light; the shine of an empty abalone shell; shapes of rocks once hidden. I hold on close to the familiarity of home. Yet the newness it so often reveals, is a comfort too.’

With numerous solo exhibitions nationally, Grey’s work is held in private collections around the world, as well as in the public collection of the Devonport Regional Gallery.

We are excited to be presenting a collection of new works by Zoe Grey at the forthcoming Sydney Contemporary Art Fair from September 5th – 8th.
