J Davies offsite exhibition ‘The Future Feels Familiar’ now open

J Davies’ offsite exhibition ‘The Future Feels Familiar’ at LCI Melbourne, 150 Oxford Street, Collingwood is now open!

‘The Future Feels Familiar’ is an evocative exhibition that delves into the intimate and personal through a unique collection of analogue and polaroid photographs. With a fly-on-the-wall approach, J invites viewers to witness vulnerable moments that foster genuine connections, exploring themes of queerness, joy, desire and safety amidst the cinematic sunsets and dimly-lit dance floors of Naarm.

As part of the opening event, J will be giving an artist talk on Thursday 22 August from 5-6pm.

As a multidisciplinary Takataapui artist, J captures contemporary queer experience, fostering connections to community and culture while exploring themes of identity, intimacy, and neurodiversity. Their work celebrates queer bodies and trans joy.

Most recently, J was included in the NGV’s 2023 exhibition Melbourne Now with a photographic installation spanning 150+ images. In addition, J presented a solo exhibition as a part of PHOTO2024 at James Makin Gallery. J has also been selected as a finalist in this year’s National Photographic Portrait Prize and the Bowness Photography Prize for the second time.

Congratulations J!
