We’re excitedly anticipating this year’s Sydney Contemporary. At the James Makin Gallery booth this year will be Annalisa Ferraris, Patrick Dagg, Sally Walk , Elizabeth Barnett (featured), Toby Raine and Jasper Knight. In the coming weeks we’ll be featuring each of these artists, giving you a taste of what’s ahead.
This week’s featured Sydney Contemporary artist is Elizabeth Barnett, who makes her art fair debut with JMG this September. On her Sydney contemporary exhibition, Barnett states: “Still life continues to play an important role in my work – Australian native flora encroached upon occasionally by ivy, sit in compositions atop books of poetry, favourite cookbooks and craft manuals. In these pieces, patterned tablecloths set the scene, drawing the eye across, up and around, while floral arrangements loosely set in jars or vases focus the eye to the centre of the painting.”
