CONGRATULATIONS TO RONA GREEN – WINNER OF THE 2006 SILK CUT AWARD FOR LINOCUT PRINTS

Rona Green has won this years Silk Cut Award with her print, Dally Boy.
Tattooed and menacing, Green’s linocut conveys a striking graphic simplicity. In her recent body of work the symbology of tattoos and their specific meanings remain a strong component. After recent travel to Borneo, tribal body markings that indicate the cannibalistic habits of its indigenous population are incorporated into her repertoire of skin designs that signify disreputable human activity.

Deceiver’s of the Pack running from 2 – 30 September at the Port Jackson Press Print Room, will feature new works by Rona Green and Rew Hanks, both exceptional, contemporary Australian printmakers .

The Silk Cut Award was introduced in 1995 to encourage the making and appreciation of linocut prints. Sponsored by Duroloid and Dutch manufacturer Forbo, the award aims to provide creative opportunities for artists of all ages and is the only national print award to provide a special category for primary and secondary school students.

The exhibition can be viewed at the Glen Eira City Council, corner of Glen Eira Road and Hawthorn Road, Caulfield until 3rd September, phone: 95243333
