TRACEY DEEP: Spirit Land – in collaboration with Saint Cloche

11 Nov — 27 Nov 2022

Opening Event 11 Nov

A dedication – Spirit Land is an ode from the heart to our sacred lands in Australia, the land
that was recently devastated by flooding and wildfires, decimating vast areas. I needed to pay
homage and make a spiritual marking through Spirit Land, dedicating my grief for our lost flora
and fauna, and the destruction to our natural eco systems, natural habitats and innocent lives
lost.

In some humble way, I hope my body of work is a reminder of the importance of our
guardianship in protecting and nurturing our ancient, unique land and fostering connection
to the spirit of the land we walk on. Our precious native species are being pushed towards
extinction and it is happening on our watch – it’s up to us change the status quo or we risk the
future of our existence too.

As an artist, I cherish time spent in nature, the inspiration that is generated from precious time
appreciating striking tree forms, undulating rugged landscapes, native bird song and perfume
of our sweet eucalypt, stimulating all my senses and the connection of my soul to the majestic
spirit of this extraordinary landscape we call home.

Tracey Deep has been working as a floral sculptor for the last 25 years. Ever evolving,
the last 15 years of her art practice has seen her spawn organically from floral art to
develop rigorously into the realm of environmental art, sculpture, and installation
work. She has a profound passion for repurposing and working with used, industrial
and organic, discarded, pre-used, pre-loved and discontinued or obsolete materials to
create sustainable art. Treading lightly on the earth is a cornerstone of her ethos. Tracey
revels in the natural world and her works reflect a poetic play of light and shade, earthy
textures, and sensual forms, inspired by the quintessence of nature.
