Recently, Sally Walk created a small series of sculptures for The City of Melbourne, sending art enthusiasts around the city to find hidden keys to unlock a sculpture to take home.

We are pleased to present an additional series of these small sculptures, which the artist has affectionately titled ‘critters’. These semi-anthropomorphic works channel the spirit of the resilient community of Melbourne in a post-lockdown world – a visual testament to the endurance and growth of Melbournians. Through intricate patterns, textures, spots and the occasional warp or dent, these sculptures bear witness to the scars and strength we acquire in challenging times. Each critter-like form is wheel-thrown from mid-fired clay and meticulously carved, giving each an organic character.

Reflecting the city of Melbourne, these sculptures are also infused with a sense of hope and optimism. The vibrant underglaze exudes playfulness and positivity, while their golden tips radiate as beacons of light. This ceramic series is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our urban community.
