Belem Lett’s forthcoming solo exhibition Aperture, explores the intricate relationship between form and light. Drawing parallels between the eye’s iris and a camera’s aperture, the exhibition highlights how variations in light, colour and composition can alter perception.
Lett has created a nuanced visual experience, utilising different surfaces—metallic, matte and textured—to bend and focus light within the frame. The arrangement of shapes evoke Incan stone walls and Tetris-like structures, often featuring fragmented configurations that leave open space for the viewer to fill in the gaps within their mind’s eye.
Belem Lett is a Sydney-based artist working across painting and sculpture. He has exhibited widely in Australia and is a regular finalist in major national art awards. In 2024 alone, Lett has been announced as a finalist in the Deakin Small Sculpture Award, Waverly Art Prize, Vincent Prize, Sunshine Coast National Art Prize, Gosford Art Prize, Mosman Art Prize, Hornsby Art Prize and the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award.
