Over his career as an artist Giblett has mastered a seamless style of painting devoid of recognisable brushstrokes. In removing the painter’s mark he creates a work that is devoid of the painter, permitting his work to speak from its own life source. As if back-lit, his paintings glow from within, giving pulsating light to the amorphous forms of his abstract landscapes. Giblett’s optimistic re-imagining of the climate crisis, rises with buoyant life from the canvas – not as an imposed idea of the artist, but as something self-evident to the topic and the landscape itself.
Stephen Giblett is a Melbourne based artist who has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, including a major solo exhibition at the Gippsland Art Gallery in 2012. In 2013 he was a finalist in the 2013 Gold Coast Art Prize, and in 2010 was a finalist in the NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize.
