ARCHIBALD TRAVELS TO BENDIGO & THE LED ZEPPELIN WORLD TOUR COMES TO MORNINGTON
The Archibald Prize 2008 has begun the first leg of its regional tour around Australia opening at Bendigo Art Gallery this Friday night, where it will be on display until the 29th June. This provides a chance for Victorians to view the prize, particularly finalist EOLO PAUL BOTTARO'S work 'The Archibald (self portrait)' which was selected for the prize from the 793 entrants. This work has been singled out by the media for its originality and visual splendour as it features many of the Archibald's past winning paintings adorning a vast, imaginary gallery. Bottaro is represented in Melbourne by the James Makin Gallery, and will be having a solo exhibition at the gallery this year from August 14 - September 6, 2008.
Meanwhile another popular artist from the James Makin Gallery stable, ALAN JONES is featured in the Lismore Gallery touring exhibition The Led Zeppelin World Tour. This exhibition is based on the only gig Led Zeppelin ever played in Sydney, which occurred one Sunday afternoon in February 1972. Rock photographer Ted Harvey was there, and this exhibition features never before seen photos of this legendary three hour long performance. A group of artists including Danius Kesminas, Adam Cullen, Gareth Sansom, Craig Waddell, Lucille Martin, Nicholas Harding, Alan Jones, Euan Macleod, Reg Mombassa and Geoff Harvey, have also been invited to make work responding to this. The exhibition is current from 28th May – 6th July 2008 at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery.
New work by Alan Jones and Eolo Paul Bottaro will be exhibited in the James Makin Gallery, Winter Collection exhibition opening on the 17th of July at the gallery.
