À_The Southern Ocean series originated from a visit to the Otway region in south-west Victoria some years ago. There is a wonderful section of coastline looking out across the Southern Ocean. One memorable evening the sky was broken into several horizontal bands of shimmering light; a marvellous image.
This image has stayed with me and gradually found its way into this current series of monotypes. It continues a pattern of reducing the elements of landscape to the most reductive format, thus freeing me to concentrate on my unfolding passion for colour.
The series is about the sea and the sky and the exploration of colour. It is essentially non-representational – the ambiguity of subject matter hopefully allows the viewer to experience the images at a deep intuitive level.À_
