Now in its third year, the Port Jackson Press Australia Graduate Printmaking Award 2010 offers printmaking graduates who have just completed their studies, the professional experience of exhibiting in a commercial gallery along with a $4000 cash prize, and a full-page feature article in Imprint, kindly sponsored by the Print Council of Australia. This award is acquisitive and is open to any student who majored in printmaking and completed their course of study in 2009 at any tertiary institution in Australia.

The panel of three judges who will select the award recipient are Des Cowley, Rare Printed Collections Manager, State Library of Victoria; Graham Fransella, Melbourne Based Artist; and Anne Virgo, Director, Australian Print Workshop.

In addition to the major prize there is a People’s Choice Award given to the finalist that receives the most votes. This prize includes a full-page colour advert in the Art Almanac valued at $522.50, and paper to the value of $200 from Magnani Papers. Voting for the People’s Choice Award commences on February 4, and concludes on February 18, where it will be announced at the opening with the Port Jackson Press Australia Graduate Printmaking Award.

The award finalist’s artwork will be on display at the James Makin Gallery from February 4 – 27, 2010 and the award will be announced on Thursday February 18, from 6 – 8 pm.
