Luke Sciberras is known for his evocative, abstracted landscapes of Hill End in country NSW, a former gold mining town where the artist lives and works. In addition to paintings and etchings of this area, Plucked and Gutted features a body of work that responds directly to the Victorian landscape, particularly the rugged Grampians and its surrounding region.

Expanding his vision to capture the dramatic terrain of the Grampians, Sciberras’ deft stroke depicts scars from the bushfires that swept through the range in summer of last year. Ararat, Stawell and Ballarat also feature, and as always Sciberras captures the ebb and flow of the seasons, adapting his earthy palette to describe their subtle atmospheric changes and the varying hues of the Victorian countryside.
